Audiovisual Materials

What is allowed and not allowed in higher professional education?

In higher professional education, we use visual materials (films, videos, or television programs), audio (music, sound), and still images (photos, pictures). What are you allowed to do with these within the framework of copyright law? This page provides an overview of what is and isn’t permitted. Here you will find tips on using materials, the free resource 'Image and Sound at School,' and embedding content.

On these pages, you will find more information about copyright and:

Embedden

What is embedding?

Embedding means using a piece of code to share content such as a video, image, or music on a website or blog post. This eliminates the need to download or re-upload the content. Instead, the content is embedded and displayed directly from the original source. This means you refer to the original location without duplicating the content itself.

Why embed?

By embedding content, visitors remain on your page. For example, think of a YouTube video—they don't need to click through to YouTube but stay on your blog or site, which is ideal. Moreover, the original source is preserved. Embedding is therefore always preferred over placing a link.

How to embed a video from YouTube:

  1. Go to YouTube and find the video you want to embed.

  2. Click the arrow pointing to the right accompanied by the word "Share":

  3. A new window opens. Select "Embed" on the far left. You can also copy the link if preferred.

  4. After clicking "Embed," a new window opens displaying the code you can copy to embed the video.

  5. Copy and paste the code or link, and you're done!
