Embase (English): Additional search options

Additional search options

This page explains some of the additional search features.

► These are search features that don't exist in other databases. These make Embase unique.

Journals

Through the Journals button you will find a list of all titles searchable in Embase. Search these by title or use the ISSN number.

Tip: Select Only show Open access journals to make sure you can view the journal articles in Full Text format.

PV Wizard

PV Wizard allows you to search for articles on medicine safety. Build your search in five steps:

  1. Drug name
► Which drug are you investigating?
  2. Alternative drug names
► Does this drug have other (commercial) names?
  3. Adverse drug reactions
► Do you want to search for (negative) side effects?
  4. Special situations
► Is there anything special you need to take into account (e.g. pregnancy)?
  5. Human limit
► Is your research about certain groups of people (such as men, women or children)?

Medical device

Embase contains a lot of literature specifically focussing on Medical device. Use the following building blocks:

  1. Medical device
► Which medical device will you investigate?
  2. Adverse effect
► Are you investigating a specific adverse effect?
  3. Limit options
► For example, your research population or certain years.

Medical device allows you to search more specifically than via the Device search feature.

Drug

This search engine allows you to search for a specific drug. Here, you can choose specific filters for this type of research. For instance, through Drug subheadings, you can specify what kind of research you want to do: Adverse drug reaction, Drug comparison, Pharmacoeconomics, Pharmacology etc.

Disease

Similar to the Drug search function is the Disease function. Search via the subheadings, for example, for Diagnosis, Drug resistance, Surgery or Therapy.
