General rules

• Handle the information collected with care
  Ensure the collection, processing and retention of data is done securely
• You have a duty of confidentiality, with respect to privacy-sensitive data

Rules for human-related research

• Treat human subjects with respect
  ​This means that you always ask for permission to collect the patient data. You will always give an explanation of the purpose and method of the research. Do this in a way that is understandable to the research subject.​
• Treat underage or incapacitated research subjects with care
  ​If you are conducting research with children under the age of 12 or with persons under supervision (legally incapable persons), always explain the research to the parent(s)/legal representative(s) and ask them for permission. In the case of minors between the ages of 12 and 16, both written permission from the child and from the parents or legal representatives is required.

​Zuyd University of Applied Sciences endorses the importance of scientific integrity and therefore supports the Netherlands Code of Conduct for Research Integrity in order to prevent irregularities and undesirable behaviour. If you encounter this behaviour in fellow researchers, colleagues or (external) clients, there are various possibilities to discuss this (in confidence). For example with the Zuyd ombudsman or one of the confidential advisors at Zuyd. These possibilities are described in the Zuyd Whistle-blower scheme.
