Step-by-step plan practice-oriented research

Reading guide

In the menu on the left you will find a step-by-step plan to conduct research in a careful and safe manner. Follow the steps listed for each phase and adhere to the rules listed below. All relevant background information can be found via the links provided.

General rules

  • Always consult with your supervisor (and if necessary the client) as:
    - you doubt and/or find something unclear
    - there is a problem or situation that could damage your research
  • Handle the information collected with care
Ensure the collection, processing and retention of data is done securely
  • You have a duty of confidentiality, with respect to privacy-sensitive data

Rules for human-related research

  • Treat research subjects with respect
This means that you always ask for permission to collect the patient data. You will always give an explanation of the purpose and method of the research. Do this in a way that is understandable to the research subject.
  • Handle minors and incapacitated researcher subjects with care
If you are conducting research with children under the age of 12 or with persons under supervision (legally incapable persons), always explain the research to the parent(s)/legal representative(s) and ask them for permission. In the case of minors between the ages of 12 and 16, both written permission from the child and from the parents or legal representatives is required.

Research integrity and undesirable conduct

Zuyd University of Applied Sciences endorses the importance of scientific integrity and therefore supports the Netherlands code of conduct for research integrity in order to prevent irregularities and undesirable conduct. If you encounter this conduct among fellow students, supervisors or (external) clients, there are various possibilities to discuss this in confidence. For example with the Zuyd ombudsman or one of the confidential advisors of Zuyd University of Applied Sciences. These possibilities are described in the Zuyd whistle-blower regulation.
