EndNote Basic ENG: Installing the Word plug-in

Installation

Two steps are necessary to be able to use EndNote with Word:

1: download the CWYW-plug-in, this step is explained below.
2: add some reference styles in EndNote Basic, this step is explained under the tab Reference styles.

Sometimes, after installation, the EndNote-tab is missing from Word. You can find a solution to this problem here.

Plug-in installation - Windows

Make sure Word is closed.

Log in into EndNote Basic. Click on Downloads:


Go to Cite While You Write, you can choose to install the plug-in on Mac or PC:



Click on 'Download Windows with Internet Explorer plug-in', save the file and click on it once the download has finished:

The program starts to search for installed applications (this may take a while):

If no plug-in is found, the following screen appears. Click Next.

The next screen asks for Registration Information. Just fill in your name or leave it as it is. Click Next. 

The Set Server screen appears. Choose Default and click Next.

In this screen you can choose the destination folder for the plug-in.
The default drive is C, click browse to change drives or folders. Click Next to continue.

In the Select Features screen, you can choose which components you wish to install.
If you don't want to change anything, click Next.

Click Next one more time:

Done! Click Finish.

Now when you open Word, you can see a new tab in the ribbon: EndNote:

Click on the tab. A login screen appears, fill in your EndNote Basic credentials.

Check the box next to Remember my address and password and click OK.

The tab now opens, with all the options to work with EndNote:

Now follow the steps as mentioned under the Reference styles tab to add more reference styles.

Plug-in installation - Mac

Make sure 'Word for Mac' is installed on your Mac.

Log in into EndNote Basic. Click on Downloads:


Go to Cite While You Write, here you can choose to install the plug-in for Mac or PC:



Click on 'Download Macintosh' to open the next screen.
Choose the folder you want to save the file to and click Save:

The following notification appears on the bottom left side of your screen:

Click on this notification to open the next screen:

Click on 'Install Cite While You Write'. A warning screen appears:

Click on 'Open' to see the installer screen. Choose Standard Installation. Click Next.

Another warning screen appears. Click Open.

When the installation is completed, the following message appears:
'Thank you for installing EndNote Cite While You Write'.

In 'Finder' go to 'Programs' and open 'EndNote Cite While You Write'.
Select your installed Word-version, ie. 'EndNote CWYW Word 2016.bundle' and click on it.

Confirm your choice in the pop-up screen.

Open 'Word'. Select the 'EndNote' option. A login screen appears, fill in your EndNote Basic credentials
Click the box next to Remember my e-mail address and password and click OK.

The tab opens, with all the options to work with EndNote:

Now follow the steps as mentioned under the Reference styles tab to add more reference styles.
